Staged

2018

"Staged" is part of a 5-part series of paintings created from canvas used on Season 12 of "The Bachelorette" in 2016, filmed at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. This artwork reflects the artist's experience working on the show, depicting a scene where an individual, with fingers in their eyes and biting a man's thumb, is engaged in an intense interaction. The man stands over them in a domineering manner, referencing assumed gender roles in mainstream television, and the power plays ubiquitous in the entertainment industry.

The canvas for "Staged" originally appeared on "The Bachelorette." It was created for the show with the intention of being simple and non-memorable, serving merely as a prop. After the show's filming concluded, the painting was donated to the artist, marking its transition from a television set accessory to a canvas actively painted, thereby creating a standalone work of art.

Staged first appeared at The Pancakes and Booze Art Show in 2018 at Spirit in Pittsburgh on August 4, during which the artist showed 4 other works, and performed live painting of both, 2018’s “Big Data Meetup” and the 30 x 48 inch “Urn 23” (2016 - 2021).
